Gautrain Festival of Running
CELEBRITIES, SA STARS TO IGNITE GAUTRAIN FESTIVAL OF RUNNING AT SUPERSPORT PARK
The list of iconic singers, DJ’s, VIP’s, South African sporting stars and young emerging giants will add lustre to the Gautrain Festival of Running, a unique historic event and arguably the first of its kinds in a South African sport stadium, set to reshape the mixed usage of cricket facilities and enthral thousands of spectators at SuperSport Park. The Gautrain Festival of Running is set to become an annual sporting event for outdoor strollers, athletes, corporate relay teams and even mother-and-baby pram walkers, which is something completely new to sporting crowds.
Pierre Joubert, Commercial Manager of the Multiply Titans, said that the Gautrain Festival of Running has several aims. It promotes SuperSport Park as a mixed-use facility, and also gives the outdoor warriors access in the cricketing off-season to a safe environment where people of any age can mingle while engaging in a recreational activity. SuperSport Park has become synonymous with some of the greatest sporting feats since first hosting a test against England in 1995.
“We expect it to be a festival in every sense of the word where thousands upon thousands of outdoor adventure participants and their families and friends can engage in an event which can become as popular as a T20-International or a Springbok-sevens tournament,” said Joubert.
Multiply Titans wants to produce a once-in-a-lifetime-offering ensuring that every one of the thousands of participants spread the word through their social contacts and social media in hopes that the event will grow every year and attract even more participants and spectators.
Various sports, TV and radio personalities have confirmed their presence. Amongst them are former SA Open winner, Brandon Stone, international star Lungi Ngidi, Multiply Titans star Junior Dala and the Northerns Cricket President. Groot FM presenter Ruben Dalmage, actor and MC Coco Merckel, DJ Ankletap, marketing guru, DJ and Producer Nkanyezi Kubheka, DJ, Lasoul, Special Advisor to the Minister of Sport and Recreation Max Fuzani and well renowned South African actor Seputla Sebogodi are amongst the many celebrities that will be igniting the two day event. Groot FM will also be present to cover this fun-filled event.
“The festival will commence on Friday when a corporate relay that can lure a capacity of 1200 competitors or 300 teams, will start at 10:00. All participants amongst the 1200 will receive medals and the 300 teams will each pay R1500 entry fee. On Saturday 8th April, the festival will kick off with a family fun run limited to 500 participants from 07:00 to 07:45, as well as the ‘pram-walk’, limited to 300 participants at an entry fee of R50 per person.”
There will be lucky draw prizes on offer for entrants (at R50 per person).
